Betsy Vaden Pottery

Working mostly in stoneware and porcelain, Betsy Vaden creates both functional and sculptural pieces.  She uses wheel-throwing, hand-building and sculpting techniques, often combining them to achieve a unique effect.  Much of her work reflects an interest in the natural world – the beauty of a leaf, a twisting vine, the surprise of a small creature, lines in a face.

Betsy Blythe Vaden grew up in Charlotte, N.C. and now lives in Chapel Hill, N.C.  Betsy’s clay work is influenced by the training in drawing, painting and printmaking she received as a design major at Duke University, and through graduate level courses at Massachusetts College of Art. The invaluable education and experience she has gained as a docent at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh and the Ackland Art Museum at UNC-Chapel Hill also inspire her work.

She will design to order - truly a one-of-a-kind artist. Contact Kathy Southerland to view Betsy's portfolio and design and order a custom piece.
